i am installing new seals in lower unit on a evinrude 48 slp 1988, i seen alot of guys on the internet use a seal compound made by evinrude. i have the bearing carrier out right now and havent put in seals yet because i see some small pitting and a few little scratches. this is no big deal but i dont have a marine shop in my area so was wondering what kind of gasket sealer could i use that you can find in a automotive parts store?? also any special way to reinstalling carrier?? or just put in and tap it until its seated?
