I have a vxl-13a and right now I'm going through about 6 gallons of gas to travel about 14-15 miles on the Wisconsin River. Is this right? It seems like a lot of gas and not that much travel distance. I'm new to owning a boat so this might seem like a foolish question, but any information would be great.

If I am burning too much gas what can I do to help increase my "milage"?

As a general rule, you'll use approx. 10% of your motors HP in fuel at WOT per hour. In your case , 6 =10% of your HP. So, you'll use 6 gallons of fuel per hour at WOT.

OK so I answered my own question on WOT using google. Is there anyway to increase the time of WOT? I am getting about an hour of run time on the 6 gallons.

The only way to increase your time at WOT is to get a larger tank.....

It depends on how heavy the boat is that you have this motor on, how many people in the boat, and how much gear. Also is there a swift current on this river? If this is an old water soaked wood boat with 5 people and gear then you are going to burn a lot of fuel. If it is an aluminum boat with 2 people and not much current the use will go way down. Also with a boat you need to figure gas use at WOT vs MPH. Usually you can back off the throttle a bit and get better economy. As an example if you burn 6 GPH at WOT and go 30MPH you are getting 5 MPG but if you back off on the throttle and burn 3GPH at 25MPH then you are getting over 8 MPG. These are just an example and most boats I have owned get between 2.5 and 4 MPG. With out a flow meter you will need to keep track so you can find the best economy for your set up.8)

Another way to save fuel is Smart tabs These make your boat plane easier and stay on plane at a lower speed. Also tryt to balance the boat so it doesn't have too much weight in the stern.Take out any wasted weight to lighten tha load. Most motors do much better when you back off a little on the throttle but you will have to experiment to find the bestrt speed.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm going to try and move the anchors to the front of the boat and try not running it wide open next time I'm out.
