I have a 25' Chris Craft Catalina ('77 with a single inboard). The 55-60 gal tank is mounted in the stern, and is pretty much in the way of everything I would like to do to the boat this year (mainly, installing a swim platform). I'm thinking maybe I should look into replacing the stern tank with a couple of 25 gallon saddle tanks mounted on the sides -- think there is room, but of course I need to take all the measurements. Have any of you done this? It seems to me the weight distribution would be favorable (midships rather than stern), and opening up the stern area for storage as well as access would be a real plus. Further, plastic tanks like those made by Tempo should be both lighter and probably better at keeping fuel uncontaminated.

Right now, the battery is on the starboard side of the engine and the fresh water tank is on the port side. These would have to be moved -- probably to the area just behind the engine.

Any thoughts?

[Moderator -- maybe should have posted in the general boat discussion??]
