Hi,
I have an old 68 sears fiberglass turnabout with a 45 ho sears motor. Put it in the water for the first time about 2 weeks ago and it ran fine with the exception of surging rpm at all throttle positions. I trialered my boat back home and noted it had about 1/3 of a tank left in the 6 gallon tank. I took the cover off today and smelled gas like crazy. I then noticed that the tank was empty. I pulled up the wood in the back to find all the gas on the bottom of the boat?????? When I left it 2 weeks ago I did not detach the quick disconnector on the fuel line but I did plug the tank vent. Is it possible the connector is faulty and the 90 degree weather created such pressure that the gas was forced out? The tank itself definitely has no leaks. Any ideas or advice is appreciated!
Thanks!

Yes, temperature changes will force the gas out ANY leak. That would include within the motor too, if the hose was attached.

Temperature rises, air expands, pressure increases, fuel is forced out.
Temperature falls, air contracts, pressure decreases, more air is drawn in (for the next temperature cycle).
