Gas Problem?

So Yesterday I went out to do some preseason duck scouting. Took my 4hp evinrude. 85 that runs good. So I get in the water, prime the engine and take off. 100 yards away it dies and I notice no gas going into carb. (I have a clear hose from pump to carb.) So I prime engine again and same thing happens. The only way to scout was to keep priming every 8_10 seconds. Now today I put motor in garbage can in garage and it runs fine. I lowered the gas tank like it wiuld be in the boat and it still ran fine. Maybe under a bigger load it can"t pull the gas up? Any thoughts out there.

Your explanation spells fuel pump failure to me.

Re: Gas Problem?

It could also be the check valves in your primer bulb or also your tank venting. Opening up the gas cap can rule out the tank vent issue, if it happens again and if you have another hose you can try that to determine if it is the culprit. I have had a hose that wouldn't allow gas flow when it was a really hot day, but worked fine in the cooler mornings. I since got a new hose.
