I have a 1975 Johnson 135HP. I notice that when I shut the engine off I get fuel pouring out of the carburator(sp). Not just a drop or two, but quite a bit. Anyone have any idea why this is happening??
Also, I need to know what charges the battery on this engine. I am new to outboards, and I don't see anything that resembles an alternator or generator. Please help

Thanks

------------------
Al Baris
Clyde, NY

Re: Gas pouring from carb

Is the gas pouring out of just one of the carbs? If so, probably a float problem, sticking or maladjusted. The alternator is under the flywheel.

Re: Gas pouring from carb

the alternator in an outboard is under the fly wheel . this alternator is made up of two parts the flywheel with cast in magnets
, and the stator assembly which is bolted to the crankcase. the stator is made up of coils
wound over a laminated iron core. The flywheel turns around this assembly inducing alternating current. Then the rectifier assembly converts the alternating current into direct current.

hope this answers your questions about the outboard alternator

Has the motor been sitting up for a while? It is most likely a float sticking open.

Good luck!
Brett
