Re: Gas mixture

I think 40:1 is about right... Todays high quality 2 stroke oil allows you to stretch the oil/fuel mix a bit more. You could try a 50:1 ratio but nothing leaner...

Walt

Re: Gas mixture

Two years OMC's position on this was anything built after 61' could use a 50 to 1 mix. The thing was OMC didn't go to 50 to 1 till 64-65. Their later statement was to include all engines that had roller/needle bearings on the crank and wrist pins insteard of the clevite sleave type bearings. That 63 has the right bearings for the 50 to 1 mix. But consider this, most little engines like that are run wide open most of the time. I would stick with the 40 to 1 just for that reason.

Re: Gas mixture

Excellent advice Big Four! And very informative as well...

In the event Skinny plans on using this mostly for trolling...would he not be ok to run a 50:1? I'm sure he and others near him would appreciate the benefits of a cleaner burning engine at low speeds IE: less smoke. Of course, if there's ANY chance he could damage his engine by using the leaner mixture...I'd certainly echo your advise to stick with 40:1

Walt
