What kinda gas mileage should i expect to get out of my 1988 Blackmax 150? I'm guessing now that i'm getting about 1 1/2 mpg. It seems low but maybe thats about right considering age of the motor. With only a 24 gallon gas tank i just have to conserve a little when fishing tournaments. It still runs like a scolded dog so its cool with me just wondering what other folks are getting.

Maybe check: Yamaha Outboard Performance Bulletins, plug in your boat/motor setup for chart showing GPH,MPH,MPG at each speed/RPM. Should be very similar for Mercury/Yamaha motors. My best cruise MPG is 3500RPM. Hope this is helpful and good luck!

Re: Gas mileage?

I believe the ratio is @10% of you hp/hr.So a 150(i have an 88 150 xr4.sweet motor!)it would burn @15 gph at WOT.No big runs for us!

Re: Gas mileage?

If it's mounted on a big toon, it'd get that. On a bass boat that goes 50mph, you should get a little over 3 mpg.

Long inneficient runs at displacement speeds really wreck havoc with your mileage for sure.

I have an XR4 mounted on an 88 tracker. Usually run at about 3/4 throttle just because it seems to be the sweet spot of easy running and getting there at about 45 mph. Boat doesn't have much deadrise to it, so the reduced speed softens the whitecaps a bit.
