I have a 2000 150 h.p. Johnson and I am looking to replace the gas line connected in the engine-unlike most outboards I have owned this connection is not located in the front with simple and easy access. The gas line goes into the engine itself with very poor visibility access.Do I need to take off the bottom cowling and what type of gas connection is it?I dont want to start pulling things apart until I know what is involved.Thank you Andy

The high hp engine for the past many years DO NOT incorporate a fuel connector. The fuel line is a direct feed to the fuel pump.

The reason being that a larger ID fuel line is required to supply the fuel needed by those fuel hungry machines.... and the present fuel connectors would be restrictive which would result in a "lean" running engine (BOOM!).

I've often wondered why the powers that be haven't come up with a larger connector. Perhaps they did?

Does the bottom cowling need to be removed for access-also what type of connection is it on the fuel pump-is just a clamp? Is it a special hose or do I just match up diameter on a fuel line? .PS you are correct about fuel and oil consumption Thank you Andy

Connections?... Without being there... don't have a clue. Usually it's just a matter of the hose being pushed on the fitting and locked in with a tie strap. Hose is normally cut from a roll... match the ID.

Yes you have to remove the lower cowl and you will see it attached to a plastic dual oil/fuel nipple assembly
