Gas leak from inside cowling

We have gas leaking from a hose inside the cowling of a 40 HP Mercury Bigfoot outboard motor. The hose comes out of the top of a silver box (don't know what it is for) then leads down to the bottom of the unit and out of the motor, into the lake. Seems like something may have broken off and fell out off the motor. This boat was in a fierce storm, and broke loose from the hoist. It may have struck something and broke off a piece from under the cowling. Attached are pictures. Any help would be appreciated. We asked a few local repairmen, but they were unfamiliar with this fuel injected model. Thanks. Gene

Hi there Gene, welcome to iboats!:) Unfortunately iboats forums is experiencing some difficulty posting photos due to recent forum software changes. It may help if you could try loading your photos into a free photo bucket account then post a link here on the forum. http://photobucket.com/............

Also it would help to know what engine serial number and year you have as Mercury now has many designs of fuel systems.

If you have your engine serial number, try inputting the number into the search bar in this next link and locate your engine parts catalog for your engine model. It may help you find the parts that are leaking. Hope this helps, good luck.:) http://www.crowleymarine.com/
