gas in oil, what to do?

I bought my first outboard in April, a 2004 MERCURY 5hp 4 stroke. We have had it out less than 50 hours this summer and I have noticed that the oil smells like gas, and is darker in color. What could be causing this, and is this anything I can fix without taking it to a dealer?

IMO its not worth even removing the cowling let alone fix it yourself, thats what warranty is for.

Take it back, its not your problem. You may void the warranty if you tinker with it. Just my opinion.

Aldo

If going back to the dealer is not an option, remove the pump with the lines still attached.squeeze the primer bulb, and if you see fuel leaking around the plunger, pump diaphram is bad.Other than that, try a new inlet needle in the carb.
DHP
