Gas gauge and speedometer not working could it be a related problem

Recently bought 2008 lund rebel and found out the gas gauge is always full and speedometer is not working. Through research found out the gas gauge sender unit could be bad or I have a short in the pink wire. The common problem with speedometer is plugged hole. Did check hole in lower unit and appears to be open but have not disconnected hose to blow air although (next step). Before I start removing the gauge panel to get to gas gauge and floor panel to get to sending unit was wondering if the gauge and speedometer could be a combined problem? If speedometer is purely pressure or is power involved also? Found a lot of useful information on site for gas gauge but only information on speedometer was plugged hole. Any information would be appreciated before I start. Thanks schemmy

If the speedo has a tube on the back, it's strictly mechanical pressure moving the needle. Gas gauge is all electrical.

Disconnect the pink wire at the back of the gauge. If the needle drops to empty the gauge is not the problem. If it stays in the same place it IS likely the problem.

Think I found the problem with speedometer. The tie holding all the wires together was pinching the hose to the gauge. Hate to admit it but not sure if gas gauge is working or not. Since the boat is new to me I may have to just run the gas down more before Im sure if it is working. Had several fishing trips and just figured the gauge should be going down. 4 gals filled the 19 gal tank. Thought gas was down more that. Could just be getting better mpg then I thought. Will give it more time before I pull floor up....Thanks again.

It's a simple matter to pull the pink wire off the gauge. Turn on the key. EMPTY? Yes = good gauge. No = other problem.
