Gas Can Hose Connection

Of all things outboard this should be the simplist thing but has me stumped.

When tipping my gas can into my boat with the hose connected I got fuel coming out of the hose connection assembly (when the fuel contacted the connection). If I remove the hose it does not leak, only when the hose is connected.

I would assume this is a faulty female connection on the hose. If anyone has more insight on this I'd appreciate it. The boat part store is not nearby and I'd only like to make one trip.

THanks

bad "o" rings, in connector. or wrong connector.

Must be the o rings. Its the same motor, hose and can for 20+ yrs.

Nah, So you have the outlet fitting that has two little pins that get pushed in when you clip on the hose connector--right?? Those two little pins are the fuel shut-off valve and the air vent.

So, now it comes to which little pin is leaking. If it is the fuel valve, there is a tiny o-ring around it, behind the little brass washer. It is replaceable.

But if it is slopping out the vent, I have to ask how old it is. The old ones would slop if tilted. But at some point in history, they changed the vent so it would admit air into the tank but not allow fuel to slop out. If you have the early one, not much you can do about it. If you have the later one, the vent is also repairable. Or, easier, replace the whole outlet valve housing assembly.

Thanks for the advice. I got it fixed by replacing the female end of the hose that connects to the can.

This forum is always a big help.
