Garmin GPSMAP276C internal battery?

I have had this unit for about 7 years. It has always worked fine for marine or auto applications. . . until the last year or so.

When first turned on after being off for several hours or more it has no idea where it is or what the date/time are. It goes into autolocate for a few minutes and searches the sky. Once it has found a few satellites it operates normally. Only a minor inconvenience, but annoying.

Garmin says they no longer service that model. I read somewhere that there is an internal battery that saves time/date info and that it needs to be replaced every few years. Garmin says nothing about that.

Anyone know about that and how to change it?

Should I just put her on ebay and recover as much of my large investment as possible?

I have replaced her with a GPSMAP640.

How is the regular battery? I have a Lowrance XOG with a battery life of about zero, and it takes a long time to regain satellite fixes and time setting when I restore external power. When I leave the power cord plugged into an always-on power outlet, I don't have that problem even though I have powered down the unit.

The regular battery is fine, NYBo. I replaced it in hopes that would fix the problem. Most of the time it is on external power or on charge.
