Got the Echo 300C fishfinder this past Christmas. I'm getting the boat ready to go out and just installed the wiring for the boat - new fuse block and all. I hooked up the fishfinder to the fuse block and it doesn't turn on. Red wire to positive and black to ground. Am not sure what's going on - only things I can think of are 1. The unit is dead. 2. Wrong fuse in the fuse block? I believe it's a 3 amp. 3. Problems with the cabling (can't see any reason why this should be a problem). It hasn't been used or turned on before, so I'm just hoping I missed a step somewhere. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Put a voltmeter on the connector in the cradle to make sure you have 12 volts. If not, check the voltage at the fuse holder to see what you have

Hi. Thanks for the suggestion. I went out to try this (I think I already did that and confirmed there was power near the unit) and when I plugged in the connectors, the screen lit up and it's working. Not sure why now - but it seems to be ok. Thanks folks.

Conections, glass fuse holders, and even cannon plugs have caused intermitent problems on my gpsmap 398 over the years. I use a conductive paste on my plugs and connections. Salt water makes it even worse!!!
