Hi all.
Been a reader of these very helpful forum for about a year now. First time posting.
I have a small RIB and just bought the Lowrance Elite 4x HDI Fishfinder. I have a Garmin GPSMAP 78s and wanted to connect them. They both have NMEA 0183. Has anyone done this? What cable should I get and any help on wiring will also help.

The Garmin has a 4 pin round serial port and USB at the back. Would be nice to have them both talking to see the depth on the Garmin and the position on the FF.

Thanks.

Okay I found the cables. NDS-4 and home made for Garmin.

For help or guidance in making connections between any two NMEA-0183 devices see

GUIDE TO NMEA-0183 CONNECTIONS
continuousWave: Whaler: Reference: NMEA-0183 Interconnection Guide

Also, I recommend you check the user manual carefully for the ELITE 4. Some of those less expensive Lowerance ELITE series devices can only have a NMEA-0183 interface in one direction. They can only be either a TALKER or a LISTENER, but cannot do both. Read your user guide carefully to see if your Lowrance unit is able to be simultaneously a TALKER and a LISTENER on NMEA-0183.
