garica 5500 model

just like to find out a question on this reel.the above reel has a thumb rest on top of it and can flip up .can anyone tell me what this is for on this reel .the only thing i can think of is casting one hand and control the cast ;am i correct.

Hi, Lonewolf. There are so many different versions of the Ambassaduer 5500 that you need to be more detailed. Some have thumb-bar releases, some have Anti-backlash technology, some are loaded with ball bearings, etc., etc.<br /><br />My guess is that you are correct.<br /><br />Red sky at night. . .<br />JB <br />JB

HI J.B. TALK TO YOU A WHILE BACK ABOUT THIS REEL .WAS LOOKING TO PURCHASE A 6.3.1 RETRIVE ON A 5600 REEL.YOU EXPLAIN TO ME I WOULD BE BETTER OFF WITH A 5.3.1. SO I GOT A DEAL ON 5500CL3.LIKE I SAID THIS THUMB REST FITS RIGHT ON TOP OF THE BAR FOR THE LEVEL WIND .YOU CAN FLIP IT UP ;YOU CAN FLIP IT DOWN.BUT WHY IT IS THERE ;YOU GOT ME

I have 3 of the above mentioned reels and to be honest with you, I never knew that the piece flipped up until now. My guess is that it flips up to make it easier to remove a backlash... That's the only thing that makes sense to me.<br /><br />B

BARECAT SINCE YOU HAVE 3 OF THEM ;HOW DO YOU LIKE THEM.THIS REAL IS NEW TO ME ;SINCE I ONLY HAVE USED PEN REEL;AND MY BEST PENN IS NO 9 REEL;AND ALL MY FISHING IS SALT WATER,FLUK;WEAKS, STRIPERS.

I fish in the Chesapeake Bay and I have gone to Ambassadeur reels exclusively. I have 5500, 6500c3, and 7000 models. I really like the drags and cast controls. That plastic thing is just a thumb rest and it flips up because that's how garcia designed it to attach to the posts I guess. Use 'em, you'll like 'em. I retired all my Penns.
