My Gamefisher is a model 217.586752 7.5hp outboard, the serial # is 68078102, the block # is 277710,the carb is Tecumseh part # 632632

What should the initial setting be on the idle adjust needle (part #24 in the pic)? What's the proper procedure for installation? Does the protrusion on the knob (part #18 in the pic) have to face a particular direction when reinstalling the needle?

What is the proper procedure for removing and replacing the prop shaft seal on this motor?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Dave

I dont have specifics on your motor but most
start one turn out from gently bottomed.
Then adjust to the best setting running under load warmed up.Knob is simply an indicator
of the position of the screw. It only needs to be positioned so you can adjust the screw without
restriction.Adjust the high speed screw first.
My manual doesnt cover your motor. You should
have a manual before performing any service on
your motor.I think there is a site, repair manuals.com that may have manuals for your motor.
also certified parts corp. may be able to help.
My manual covers many brands 60-72 cost about $15
on ebay.Sometimes they can be found at the library.

Spike,
Thanks for the info pard. I have the "Tecumseh Technicians Handbook 2 Cycle Engines" Way cool informative book, but a little scetchy on info as to installing the type of idle adjust needle my carb has. The outboard carb shown in the book had a slightly different type needle arangment. The carb pic in my first post was scanned from my owner's manual. Found out that the part #s listed in the parts list in my owner's manual were actual Tecumseh #s. Ordered the required carb parts for the rebuild from http://www.rcpw.com/Oem_Parts.htm
they had some parts the Sears did not and were cheaper overall.

Thanks,
Dave
