I have a 96 gamefisher 9.9 that is flooding when the primer bulb is squeezed. I assume this is a float/needle-seat problem, but I can't figure out how to get the carb off without completely tearing the whole motor down. Is it possible to remove the carb from these motors without taking off the power head? Thanks for looking.

The carb is held on with 2 nuts, then a couple other clips, hoses and such. It's pretty easy to remove, though there isn't much room to loosen the nuts.

Have you replaced the fuel pump diaphragm kit yet, that would be at the top of my list.

Have ordered the diaphragm kit.

Fuel coming out of the carb throat when squeeszing the primer bulb would indicate the needle not seating right? Or is there somehting else that could cause this?

Yes. Something is allowing the fuel past the needle. Either a bad needle/seat, crap/dirt lodged between needle seat, or excess pressure from the primer bulb, float issue. Good luck...

Problem solved....sorta. I had flooded the engine initally when first trying to start it, but flooding wasn't the primary problem. The real problem was the primer, not the squeeze bulb but the engine primer. The original was completely eviscerated and was replaced. What I didn't know was apparently the original had a hole in it to allow air flow. This is just an assumption based on the fact that the engine wouldn't run until a poked a hole in the new one. Can anyone confirm that the factory primer is ported and that the hose should have vacuum?

Please allow other Gamefisher owners the opportunity to learn from your experience by posting Gamefisher problems in the Other Outboard Brands forum. I will move this there.

Without taking mine apart, that sounds right. I seem to remember that hole and thought at the time that it was odd having a hole in the primer bulb. But then thought, the hole gets covered/closed when you push the primer so it would work...
