Gamefisher 7.5 runs poorly/ quits

I've got a 7.5 gamefisher that does not seem to want to go to it's highest speed. Then, after running it a while, it conks out and I have to let it cool for a while before it will start again. When it does restart, it still does not go up to it's speed capacity. Is this a tune-up issue??

To be sure what you have we need a model number.
Is it pumping water?How long does it run?How long does it need to cool?Does choking help when it starts to stall?
Does choking help it to perform better?

I believe the water vents are under water, just above the prop. How do I know if it is pumping water?

look near the back of the shaft right under the powerhead and water should be coming out in a stream
