gamefisher 5hp what year

HI all!! Just got a GameFisher 5 HP motor by Sears, model # is 217-586612, Ser # is 58003626 The cover says it is a positive shift drive. When it is running, it speeds up and down, and sometimes it dies completely. I assume it should run steady like a lawnmower, but this one surges. Any suggestions on what would cause this? Maybe someone knows about these that can help...I may need to change the points, so any help on doing that would be great!! Also, what is the best spark plug to use in these motors? Thanks for any help

your motor is a 1984 sounds like carb problems<br />or fuel pump or lines & tank are all clean?

i just got a gamefisher 5hp, model #217-586612, ser # 58003387....does anyone know what year mine might be?

the motor appears to not be getting any spark...what should i look at first??
