My gamefisher 15 hp wont run. I am sure it is getting gas and it starts for 3 sec on starting spray. Is it a carb issue?

-Make sure you work with "fresh" fuel & verify if flowing out of fuel-line.
-Remove Carburetor from motor & open bottom(bowl)
-Check for partials in the Bowl/check fuel-jet, blow air through jet with float hanging down to see if anything is blocking the flow
-Remove Mixture-screw (record setting by closing all the way/count the turns it took, till lightly closed) blow air through to see for blockage
-Put everything back together & install Carb. (make sure there's a gasket between the Carb. & engine)
Fill with FRESH gas & try
-IF same symptoms appears, squeeze primer-bulb if run then, re-built carb.

If it starts with spray and dies immediately after, then it is not getting fuel. If gas is getting to the carb then you have a blockage somewhere in a jet. Pull it apart and clean it. If gas isn't getting to the carb maybe its a fuel pump? I'm not too knowledgeable with fuel pumps or getting fuel to the carb. If there is an inline fuel filter, is it plugged? Does the bulb get hard?

Year??? Model???

They used a few different carbs over the years.

Some models, the float bowl is held on with a screw that has a jet built into it.
Make sure the passages are clear.

The air screw and the passages, make sure they are clear.
The needle/seat has a rubber seal either on the needle or in the seat, some soaks or cleaners can
swell the rubber, shutting off the fuel.

I use Dawn soap, hot water and blow dry.
Bad cases, I use a spray carb cleaner first then the Dawn.

Don't use WD or silicone spray as it can make the needle/ seat sticky.

If I take off the fuel line on the motor and fuel doesnt spray out of the line then is it a connector problem

. it was a connector problem. Apparently the barb on the inside of the female connector isn't long enough. Should I replace the male connector so it fits the female one? The part number for the female connector is F197787-3 and the male connector is 22-F197767-2.

DON'T try to start the outboard on starting fluid, it doesn't have any oil in it and can cause engine damage. If you're going to put anything into the outboard to "prime" it, use premixed gas, same stuff in the fuel tank.

I would rebuild the fuel pump, they are not ethanol rated, and the diaphragm is most likely ruptured.

It now runs after I found the right connector. What should I do to clean it up so it runs better other than rebuilding the pump

Change the impeller, do a compression test.
Grease the mid section, be careful.
The grease has been in there a long time and is probably hard as a rock.
Propane torch and a grease gun.
Heat the zerks and the area around the mid section.
Too hot at the top and bottom can melt the bushings.
The zerks are pressed in and if the grease is too hard, they will just push out and no grease
gets into the mid section.
I use oil on the steering rod.
