Galvanized vs. Painted Rims

Hello everyone,<br /><br />I am purchasing a new set of tire and rim assemblies. I have a completely galvanized trailer other than my current rims. The rims are painted.<br /><br />Other than the cosmetic reasons is there any difference between galvanized and painted rims? I know that galvanized probably will not rust as quickly as painted. <br /><br />I would like to get galvanized to match my trailer.<br /><br />I'm keeping my old rims and tires for winter storage to prevent dry rot on my new ones. I will be keeping my new tires in a temperature controled garage during the winter months.<br /><br />Any information would be greatly appreciated.<br /><br />Thanks

Outside of corrosion prevention and asthetics, they are the same.

Painted is fine for fresh water - galvanized for salt.

spend the extra money on the galvanized they are better all the way around. no rust no rusty leaky beads,valve steams

My 7 year old galvanized rims have rust in the seams.?????? <br /><br />My 6 year old painted rims are still white.????

I covered my rims with PA10 and then painted them white six years ago, they're still clean even using them in salt water. <br />All this following advise from a mechanic friend who thought there'd be some warping with thin metal being heated for galvanising!<br />Turns out painting is far cheaper than galvanising, although I'd rather the look of the galv anytime.<br />Ross
