Hi
I own a 1962 Gale Buccaneer 3 hp outboard, and am often ask questions about it, as they are not a common engine here in England.
Where these engines offered for sale in the UK?
If so why,as OMC had a factory in Belgium that built Johnson/Evinrude
motors for the European market.
Another question is who sold these motors in the USA,and where they sold alongside other OMC products?
If anyone has any information about these motors, can you let me know.
At least I will be able to answer the dockside questions.
Thanks
Ray

Re: Gale outboard questions

Gale Products was a division of OMC. Gale med the brand name motors for retailers such as Montgomery Ward (Sea King), Goodyear (Sea Bee), and others. They also made motors under their own brand names, Gale and Buccaneer and sold them through their dealers.

In U.S., the 3hp is a single cylinder motor. Is that what you have? I was amazed to learn that in Europe it was make as a twin with weedless drive, a cousin of the Evinrude Lightwin and Johnson JW.

Lots of knowledge here about the U.S. versions. In fact, I used to work for a Buccaneer dealer. Just ask, and ye shall find.
