gale 1960 5hp shift rod

I am trying to find a way to remove the lower case, the shift rod is preventing this. I need to rplace shaft seals after checking pump impellar (shaft seal parts at the motor end fell out during the check)
Help!

You need to remove the power head to disconnect the shift rod.Pretty straight forward.

A great video.Any fool could do it,especially me.
Just a note.I believe the 55 model Gale 5 you don't have top pull the power head.It has a 2 piece shift rod.

Foretopman - I just did this on my Gale 5hp - the only tricky part is on reassembly you have to make sure the tube that fits into the waterpump gets in the waterpump. Mine would not line up. I was able to use a long thin screwdriver and a flashlight - looking through the exhaust outlet I was able to get it lined up and it slipped in. Its kinda a three handed job - at least for me it was.
