For any of yous out there with stringer mount OMC's, that use the Tru Course steering, you might want to lubricate the steering cables.

My boat is 29 y/o. I have always kept the two intermediate housing steering shaft bushings well lubricated. In spite of this I've felt that it was taking undo effort to steer my boat. I thought maybe I was just getting older and should maybe trade my boat in for one with power steering. (not)

In preparation for pulling my motor, in my current restoration project, I had to disconnect the steering drum at the interemediate housing. I then went forward to try the steering wheel effort. It was still significant even with the assy disconnected from the outdrive.

I got the bright idea to force aerosol Tri-flow into both passages of the cable, from both ends, while rapidly turning the steering wheel back and forth.

An incredible difference in effort at the wheel was the result. I'm sure that when I get the boat back on the water, I am going to feel 25 years younger.

Maybe you'll discover a Fountain of Youth as well.
