Had the old glass style fuse block behind the dash and some of the rivets had failed causing loose connections, etc. I replaced it today with a blade style fuse panel, taking one wire at a time and moving it over to its new circuit. I hooked up the batt, turned the key and the engine fired right up - no problems. Turned the key off and then tested each of the circuits by hitting each switch. Nothing did what it was supposed to. No matter what switch I turn on, all that happens is instrument lights turn on and the oil pressure gauge pegs itself as high as it will go. I know there's gotta be a short or a ground fault somewhere, but where do I even start looking??

Thanks,

did the old one have a area for ground wires it would have been just a strip with no fuses as this sounds like a ground has not been connected or has been added to a fuse (any black wires on the fuses?) might be better to use masking tape and number the wires then remove all of them and work them one by one. real would be worth the time to go to wallyworld and get a volt meter.

Here is how it should be wired. You pull one fuse at a time and when things begin to work normally you found the problem circuit. Or you can pull all fuses and see if anything still acts weird. Add a fuse, then ensure THAT circuit works before going on to the next. Doing this in a helter skelter fashion will drive you nuts. Fix one thing at a time.
