fuse box wiring

i'm installing a new fusebox for accessories. for reasons that would take a long time to type, i want to do this independent of the existing wiring circuit.
the fuses will be on the pos. side between batt and accessory.
i'll have a ground terminal block for neg. also with multiple connection options.
can i power the ground terminal block from batt., or do i need to ground to engine?

you can take pos and neg from battery post. you just need an inline fuse or circuit breaker at or near the battery, before the fuse block. this keeps you from burning up your boat, if the main lead and ground short out. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=186986
