Funny noise when starting in the water??

Evinrude 115 vro <br /> When i start in hooked up to the water hose it sounds fine, but when i start in up in the water it makes a funny noise after it cranks up..( Kinda like a sputter)<br />Any ideas???

How deep in the water? Is the water above the cavitation plate?

Let me rephrase that after it starts it makes that noise not when tring to start it...sorry..

It's the flat plate directly above the propellor.

OH Boy.....another funny noise...... <br /><br />Might it be the exhaust sputtering up through the water? Like a spitting sound?

I think you might have the exhaust reliefs ( two holes at the top of the leg) buried in the water.
