Funny looking rubber hose on engine..

I have a 1996 75 Force that has this rubber hose coming off a fitting on my engine.Its located about 2 inches above where the lower unit bolts on to the rest of the engine and its on the front side. Then it snakes up from there to the shifting rod (about 8 inches)and is tied off there with a plastic plug in it.It looks like its about 1/8 I.D. rubber tubing about 8 inches long with a plug in it.Someone please tell me what the heck this is....Cant find it in my manual. Thanks...

Sounds like its a water pickup for a speedo.<br />Just a guess..
