Re: Fun with Lightning Tampa Florida.
Cool.
So did it actually strike the boat? or the water nearby? Any physical damage?
Was the engine running at the time?
Why did the battery's voltage drop that far? Or was that after you had been trying to start the engine for a while?
Hi all!
Long story short version.... I was fishing around Pine Island aka Beer Can Island here in Tampa.
Around the time I should have left I saw that my port was nasty so figured I would fish awhile longer and wait it out.
Well that did not work out as the storms fully surrounded me and I had no place to go and I made the decision to hide behind the island.."Six of one and half a dozen of the other." Or "Place your bets!".:facepalm:
Skipping to the "Strike" ..At the time and up until today I did not have a clue where it hit. I just assumed it hit the boat because I was still alive.....Good Thing.
Today I did a full systems run down including checking breakers/Vhf/Radio/Tach/Rectifier-Regulator/Depth finder/Lights/Bilge/Live well pumps/Nav Lights.
Also Ohmed out the ground/power to the panel and said equipment.
Findings= Rectifier/Regulator=Toast
Findings= 3 Breakers tripped... 1-Bilge.. 2- Live well pump#1.. 3- Live well pump #2
Gonna have to replace all four components listed above...Not Complaining to much as the breakers sacrificed them selves as designed.
To your Questions
After regaining my composer 3 days later I will live.
No damage to the hull as I truly think it hit off the stern at about 15'-30' Per a witness.
The motor was running.
Best guess on what we all can see registering as voltage was surface charge on the Batt after the strike.
Any how that's my story as of today.
