Hi
I have a classic 50 (45HP) 4 cyl 1987 model. When running on full/nearly full power (planing), it has started to loose power when hitting larger waves (like stern waves from a larger boat). When this happens, it seems to go dead on the lower cylinder. It is not possible to get it into full power again, it will only choke out. Trolling home on low power is working ok. Pulling plug and cleaning it usually cures the problem. After fixing the plug, it usually smokes a lot, I assume it has accumulated some mix in the lower part of the engine. Apart from this it runs great on medium power, and also on high power until this situation occur.
I have tried to rebuild the fuel pump, assuming it could be a leak in the membrane, but with no change. I have interchanged the coils, but still a wet lower plug.
I'm now considering the carburators, could it be a sticky float needle? Any tips what else to look for? It's quite messy getting the carbs out of this engine, so any tips before I do this and wrecks the rest of my holiday are appreciated!
