Re: full service?

The full service should have been done, for the most part, before winter. Not too much to do with it now, except fire it up and make sure it runs... I suppose they could put new plugs in and check the lync and sync of the carbs and timing to make sure it's on. Check lower unit fluid and T & T fluid. Grease everything. Alot depends on which motor you have, too....Nothing you couldn't do with a Manual at your side and a few tools...

I'd ask for a detailed estimate before letting them give you "full service" and make them show you the parts they change out.

Re: full service?

I am still learning my way around the outboard so it is my preference to have a professional service.

Below I have included what is listed on my flyer for annual service:

1. Drain Gear Case Lube
2. Pressure Check & Vacuum Check
3. Remove Prop & Grease Prop Shaft
4. Grease all Swivel Points
5. Refill Gear Housing
6. Pull Spark Plugs
7. Check Compression
8. Check Ignition
9. Replace Spark Plugs
10. Check Electrical Systems
11. Check Safety Related Items
a. Steering
b. Gas Hoses
c. Trailer Lights
d. Wheel Bearings
12. Back Boat into Test tank
a. Check Cooling
b. Check Timing
c. Adjust Carbs

Your shop may perform more/less.

Re: full service?

Full Service is one of those Feel Good terms designed to allow you to think that EVERYTHING has been checked. There is no standard as to what the heck that entails. No two dealers will do all the same things and none will check absolutely EVERYTIHING. That's impossible without tearing everything down to the last screw. I like the checklist. Without it, you have no idea what they do unless you ask.

What should you expect? Hopefully, peace of mind. Beyond that, its a crapshoot. Ask.
