How do we fill this pump? 1965 Starcraft Holiday. Dip-sticked the fill tube and it was almost dry. Added very little fluid and it showed full, did not seem to fill at all. Cannot find any documentation on this. It is the white pump with the original decals on it.

My grandfather had this set up on his 1966 Penn Yan . If i recall the white pump took atf And had very little capacity in it. We had some leaks and kept a oil can with a bendible nozzle on it as we had to refill it almost evry time out. I think later the mechanic we used replaced it with an MC1 black pump that took sae 10 wt oil.

we had this boat for over 30 years, and i cut my boat mechanic teeth on this boat. The drive system and especially the tilt never worked correctly from new, never could get it working. Not sure what issues you are having with it , but If you like the boat its in would look to upgrade to a newer mc1 or alpha set up. There is a reason merc only made it for 3 or so years before moving on to the mc1 style

Keep looking for SMALL cap/hole. Buy a plastic mustard/catchup squeeze bottle. The long snout helped me get oil into reservoir hole. You may have to fill and refill if pump was very dry, since oil has to also go to rams. Have rags under reservoir, since it will get messy.

Not familiar with outdrives at all, but on outboards, if they get too low on fluid, they get air in the system. To get air out and allow room for more oil, you fill it up, tilt up/down several times and then add more fluid. You just keep doing this until it's working smoothly and there is no room for more oil when you check it.
