What is the story with the full moon and fishing. Went out this weekend in the bay for stripers/fluke/ or whatever would bite, the fishing wasn't too good. The current was running very hard it normally does during a full moon. Is the full moon a good or bad time to fish? I've heard both good and bad, any opinions

The fish position diffrently because the water gets lower and higher than at other times thus the hard running tide. Areas where you catch fish like flounder will be dry during this time at low tide and other areas will be flooded at high.

Re: Full Moon and Fishing Tidal Waters

This is what I have heard after talking with a lot of commercial/serious fishing folks:

1. Major or Minor Solunar Period, during a Full or New Moon near dawn or dusk (sunrise and sunset). When these times coincide fish will bite almost anything they see or smell. Limits are almost a sure bet, provided there are fish in the vicinity.

2. Major or Minor Solunar Period on the day of a Full or New Moon
3. The day of a Full or New Moon.
4. If the barometer is steady or rising and the temperature is favorable (15 degrees higher than water temp) then long and active response to a Major or Minor Solunar Period can be expected.
5. A pre-frontal condition with a falling barometer is consistently good.

But the most common response has been that the best time to fish is when you can...
