Is there anyone out there with a 1988 Starcraft Islander with the Merc 4.3? I just got the boat and was reading throught the generic MerCruiser Operation and Maintenance manual and it says the fuel-water seperator should be changed annually. As far as I can see in this boat, a rubber line comes from the fuel tank and runs straight to the fuel pump, and then a hard line comes out of the pump directly to the carb. I found the little filter in the fitting at the carb and cleaned that screen. Also, is there a screen on the pickup inside the fuel tank that should be cleaned/replaced?

Thanks

The 4.3 motors did not have water seperating fuel filters back then.
I would strongly suggest you install one between the tank and the fuel pump. iboats sells several different kits.
There is also a filter in the fuel pump, but it is not a water seperator.

Thanks Don. This site is an incredible resource for new owners. Is the filter in the pump able to be serviced or is it sealed?
