fuel trouble

My boat seems to run better as the gas in nearing empty. I also noticed that the primer bulb is not firming up. I have had the carbs cleaned early this season and the compression has been checked. I have had good results as far as power in the motor when the fuel allows itself. Also my gas gauge needle moves from one side to the other and is hard to tell when I'm really on empty. Can anybody suggest to me what might be my problem or what steps to take?

Re: fuel trouble

Any time the bulb will not firm up I look for a leak or a problem with the bulb. Try replacing the fuel line and include a new bulb and see if it helps.

Re: fuel trouble

Check the fuel pump diaphragms for leaks. While you're in there, replace them.

Please tell us what engine you have, RLopez.

What happens that causes you to think it runs better when nearing empty?

Let us know. :)

As far as the fuel gauge goes, Check and clean the ground on the sending unit.

Re: fuel trouble

Does the bulb have anything to do with the performance of the boat or is it simply a device to help start the engine only?
