Fuel thread sealant

Hello everyone,
I have a new question. I recently replaced the entire fuel system which begins with a portable fuel tank. The new poly tanks are not vented which means I installed the recommended fuel demand valve as well as recommended sprayless fuel fittings. One of the new fittings is leaking already so I was sent a replacement. They come wrapped with what looks like Teflon and when I removed the old fitting this stuff was disintegrated. I carefully cleaned out the female threads to keep it out of the tank ( which I’ll probably dump and clean now anyway) I’ve found several bad reviews on these fittings so I think I’ll go back to OEM ones. Question is what’s best for thread sealant. I used Permatex ptfe on the water separator now I’ve read that’s not good, so I’ll probably redo it as well. I have read a lot about Permatex aviation form a gasket for fuel threads but is it safe for poly fuel tanks and will it work on npt fittings? Also I use only none ethanol fuel so that helps.
Thanks for any help. I’d really like to do it right this time as I’m almost finished with the carburetors thanks to the awesome help I’m getting and would hate to have thread sealant make me redo that job as well.

Permatex II and III (aviation) are gasoline soluble. You do not want to use them for fuel fittings.

Permatex does make a gasoline-resistant gasket dressing. I would suggest that. I found it at a local Autozone.

I thought the data sheet on #3 said it was not soluble to gasoline. I must have misunderstood . Thanks so much for the input.

Thank you. Does it stay together when you have to remove the fitting later?
No....tape is a consumable. It needs to be removed and replaced each time you dissemble the connection.

Of note, the peanut gallery will be by shortly to say you can't use tape on fuel connections.... The problems comes when Harry Homeowner doesn't have a clue as to how to apply sealing tape to a hose connection.

loc-tite thread sealant

fuel connections are not a make every day thing unless you have a quick disconnect fitting. the threaded connections get sealed with thread sealant (and that can include teflon tap)

I used this on leaky gaskets on my fuel tank. I would expect it to work on threaded connections.

I appreciate all the replies. With replacing everything I didn’t want something like the wrong sealant to spoil my fun.

My wife found me something called Gasoila. She’s picking it up now. It’s gasoline resistant along with a long list of other things. And it can be used on about anything. It won’t harm the plastic threads on my fuel tank. We’re going to see how it does. I’ll be sharing if it turns out as good as it sounds.
