Fuel Tanks- Again ( sorry)

Hi All

I am looking at a couple of 45litre fuel tanks, and wondered- with Stainless Steel- back in the day- were the ducks guts. We had mild steel tanks that rusted faster than anything, and s/s was the go. Nowdays, I think ( maybe I'm wrong) that plastics have come a LONG way, and are probably the equivalent to s/s tanks, albeit less than 1/2 the price. Anyone have any input as to s/s -vs- poly tanks?

This is what I put in my boat.My main tank finnaly gave up.It's 35 gal/130ltr I used a Tempo plasticPicture 001.jpg 18 gal/70ltr as a back up for years.Never had a problem.Used to do a LOT of high speed trolling and my main 100gal/350ltr wasn't enough.
They make them in just about every shape and size you can imagine.I would'nt buy steel again.
A water tank looks the same but it WON"T work.Something about the last treatment and a coating for gas.Jerry

Thanks Jerry

You have mostly confirmed my suspicion. S/S tanks are not really any better than a poly/plastic tank, just a heap more expensive. Of course, you can get a S/S tank custom built, but I don't need that :) 2x45 litre poly's it is.... :) Thank you Jerry & iboats, just saved me some more precious coin!
