I have a lot of water in my gas tank that needs removal, by me. It seems removing the sending unit would be the easiest and most efficient way to go about it. Is there anything tricky or unusual I may run into when removing the sending unit? Any comments about water removal? Thanks all.

Shouldn't be any problem Just don't over tighten the screws when you put them back as they are easy to strip. The last new one I put in called for 25 INCH pounds torque and that aint much.

you shouldnt need sealant, unless you strip the bolts, just use a cork gasket
