I own a 1979 Holiday v-5 That has a 30 gal. in the belly fuel tank . Iam replacing the floor and the wood under the tank. There is no drain in the compartment that the tank is mounted in . it appears that it was sealed from factory,no drain under the tank . should there be a way for the water to drain from bow to stearn under the tank. Or ? Could use some good advise Thanks .... Chris...... in Florida

Re: Fuel tank Questions Aluminum Starcraft

Welcome aboard crumb, we love aluminum starcrafts here:D

If the belly tank is sitting on the ribs then the water drains normally thru the limber holes in the ribs.

There are pictures of this in my thread for my '79 SS, great boats that year:D

But there are no drain holes under the ribs either. and the tank compartment is sealed in the front and back ,or was at one time the silicone is no longer in tact. I have a 79 holiday V-5 I/O with a 25 gallon inboard fuel tank
there is a drain hole in the rear bulkhead but its 3 inches
above the stringers
try running a piece of thin metal under the stringers in the
centre of the keel to the back of the boat
I cleared the old sealant and it now drains under the engine
and will go out drain plug hole
That is if it leaks at all (sealed it good under there)

check out my photobucket
also replaced wood under tank
you said 30 gallon tank mine says 25

After much deliberation and study of starcraft pictures ,Ive come to the conclusion that the water has to be able to drain. I created my own scuttle holes at the bottom of the vee through the ribs from bow to stern. Thanks D135 i havent figured out how to post pict. yet ,but i was able to post your photo bucket pictures on my face page. I recieved a lot of comments ,because the 1979 boat in the brocure looks exactly like my 18' Holiday. This weekend I will be applying Gluvit to the seams and begin to cut replacement floor pieces. gettind excited . the weather is starting to warm up ...Yeah Hey D135 if you can go to My photo bucket page My log in name is crumb1055 there are some picts of my holiday..Good luck thanks Chris

I was able to see the pics on photobucket, all you need to do is click on "image code" and copy and paste it into the iboats text box.

That is one nice-looking rig:) Gotta love starcrafts aluminum boats.

Love the lines on those V-5 hulls, they are some real gems. I'd love to get a 22' V-5 SS someday, it would make my 16' seem like a little dingy:D
