Fuel tank plumbing

I just had a conversation about fuel tank plumbing with a US Coast Guardsman friend of mine. He tells me that the USCG does not recommend tapping a built in fuel tank to feed more than one engine. He couldn't tell me why but said it was a fire hazard. Anyone have an explanation for this or is this just another case of USCG over conservativism? <br /><br />I currently have a tap on my fuel tank so it can feed both the main engine and the kicker although I usually use a separate tank for the kicker.
