Fuel Tank Mounting....

Well I am getting ready to put all of the fittings on my new to me 73 Super Sport 16 Footing and in the mean time, I just junked an 18 foot Glastron boat because I bought it for the trailer for the Starcraft, in the process of junking out the Glastron, I pulled an aluminum 18 gallon tank that was mounted under the deck in the Glastron.

Now sitting here trying to figure out the best way to mount in the Starcraft, I really don't want to put it under deck in the SS so I am thinking about mounting it above deck in its own enclosure pretty much under the splash shield in the aluminum boat which I would build out of plywood with a lid on it as well as doing all of the hose hookups and the gas gage.

I am thinking about using L brackets to secure the plywood walls to the deck and then build it deep enough to give me room to take the wood lid off so I can access the fittings on the top of the tank when needed.

The tank I have looks just about like this one from RDS, have any of you done something like this, is there something I am overlooking that could create a dangerous situation?

The deck in this boat is brand new, cause I helped the guy I bought it from put it in and it was done correctly, he decided to sell this boat to me and he bought a brand new boat, but this would work out perfect for me and the wife for a weekend of fishing and cruising around the lake.

Just wanted to get some feedback before I start this project in case I have overlooked something.

Thanks in advance. The boat that it is going into is a nice boat and it would be good to have on board fuel without having to shlep tanks around all the time.

Well heck....

Nobody else did, so I'll throw a thought out there!! :D

The tank from the Glastron was under the deck, sort of in the middle, fore to aft right of an 18 footer?
Now you want to put it port to starboard under the splashwell in your 16 footer..

I'd only be concerned with ventilation in the box you'd build for it, and the weight.
Instead of "Centered" in the glastron, it's now all at the stern with the engine.

There...
Somebody said something, but in reality MTboatguy , you already know a TON more than I do..

(This post is for entertainment purposes only, and if it contains relevant and valid concerns or information, that was purely by coincidence :pound: )...

How many old boats have non-EPA vented tanks under the splashwell. One I know is under my splashwell.

I guess you plan to have a filler and vent outside of the splashwell?

Since the tank is a belly tank, make a cradle to fit the belly angles.

To me the big question is how far back can you shove it. I know my splashwell angles down pretty good toward the transom and the knee braces would stop the tank being slid in very far. An old metal 6 gallon Merc tank barely fits between the deck an angles splashwell. Maybe an SS has more room under there than my Nassau.

Actually, the tank I want to use was mounting all the way back in the stern on the Glastron. On the SS, I can push it sideways all the way to the knee brace, the splashwell on the SS is large and it fits under there with at least a foot to spare.

So I was just trying to get some feedback, I am probably overthinking ti, but they set the SS up with a ton of space under the splashwell, I could sleep under it easier than some of the truck campers I did growing up.

Thanks guys.
