Fuel Tank Feeder Hose

In order to siphon the gas out of my boat's gas tank, I had to take off the feeder hose that goes from my gas cap to the gas tank. What kind of sealant do I need to use to re-seal the feeder hose bank onto the fuel tank?

No sealer neccessary, just us two hose clamps.

Hmmm...looks like they used sealant or something before or was that just some of the hose that came off on the metal nozzle on the fuel tank? Also, they only had one clamp. Was the person I bought it from running it incorrectly?

The reason I ask is it looks like all of the hoses connected to the fuel tank (breather hose, fuel line, and feeder hose) are connected that way (one clamp with some sort of black looking sealant). I just want to be sure it is sealed correctly to avoid gas or fume leakage. Thanks!

Re: Fuel Tank Feeder Hose

As an aside, the gas I siphoned out didn't really look bad to me. Howerver, I don't know how to tell. It didn't look gummy, seemed to smell like gas, and it had a kind of mountain creek look to it (that very light brown tinted look) in a five gallon bucket. I've already disposed of it just to be safe, but I'm wondering how to tell if gas is bad or not in the future (it was 25 gallons of gas so that is worth some bucks these days).

Well,.......... I'd say you "disposed of it just to be safe," about $75.00 or more...........

Gasoline never "Looks Bad",...... Looking Bad is any Extras that happen to be Mixed in.........
A Pint of Water in the Gastank will Ruin your day,.... But a Filter should Fix it..........

"Bad Gasoline" does however "Smell Bad",.......
And if you Ever Smell it,.. You'll Never Forget it........
You'd KNOW it,...... If,+ when it Happens................It Don't Smell like Gasoline.......

Unfortunately,........ For whatever Reasons you did what you've Done,.........
You Still have the Issue........

As for the Hoses,...... The Goo was added by somebody,.... It's not nessesary.....
Unless the Hoses are Bad,.... Then New Hoses would be better than more Goo........
And,... The Clamps,....... It only takes 1 to Do the Job,... The 2nd is Insurance...............

Yeah...I wondered if I might be wasting a bunch of gas, but I didn't know how long it had been in the boat (it was last registered in 2003) and I was told by most it would be best to get the gas out of there to be safe as bad gas would cause bigger problems down the road. Oh well....lesson learned.
