Is it possible to have an air lock on fuel system on a new out of the box engine. A new far away boater after going over the whole starting procedures, couldn't start the engine. Definitely a fuel related issue.

Boater was advised by phone that the best method to assure free fuel flow condition from tank to carb was to release hose from engine, press white female's connector pin while priming bulb untill fuel exited to purge air out + pressing white pin engine's connectot to breath. Reconnect fuel hose and prime again to achieve a firm bulb. The Engine started at second pull.

2 strokes new engine comes factory delivered with engine fuel filter 1/3 full. Seems fuel remains inside fuel filter made an air/gas type lock, is this condition possible ?

Doubtful. If the carb was full (float valve closed), air in the hose could prevent a firm bulb... but then the motor would start/run on fuel in the carb, and purge the air as it runs.

Re: Fuel System Air Lock

2 strokes carb's bowl are being delivered dry, factory probably runs engine while testing untill engine drops dead, but all internal fuel filters are being delivered with at least 1/3 full. Not an issue as this conditions is not leaving oil residues at filter's bottom. Engine was roped pulled untill boater got tired, a typical fuel related issue. Well primed new engines following correct starting procedures, starts at max 3-4 rope pulls.

I'm convinced that shop testing it's a must do to assure new client inmaculate first start specially if they boat far away. On this rare occasion, testing was skipped due to boater being in a hurry...

So again, it is doubtful there was an air lock. The dealer should have checked-out the motor. Only takes a few minutes.
