fuel supply problem

I have a 95 Honda 25 hp outboard which runs great but, I just bought a new fuel line and hand pump and it doesn't seem to be priming. The hand pump on my old fuel line would get hard and you new it was primed and ready to go. This one doesn't do that. No matter how many times I pump it doesn't seem to help. I also have a brand new 6 gallon fuel tank. can someone let me know what they think is going on.

Thanks

Re: fuel supply problem

I did forget that actually. I believe that caused the problem initially but, I opened the vent and the hose would not prime the engine. Do I have to fill the hose with fuel in order to prime the hose (much like syphoning)? I thought all you would need to do is squeeze the hand pump and it would suck the fuel in by it self. Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm just at a loss of why it won't work.

Try pointing the arrow on that primer straight up towards the sky. There are check balls in there and they do'nt always work.

Sometimes primer bulbs valves gives priming probs, disconnect gas hose from engine, with a pen or proper object push conector valve a bit open, in that position prime bulb until some gas exits so to release air out, whatch out for the gas flow, fit back to engine, primer again until hard, start engine. If prob continues, try another complete gas hose, incredible, had priming problems with new fuel lines, the problem, internal valves un correctly assembled at the factory.

Happy Boating

Re: fuel supply problem

I found the problem!! It was loose fittings from the fuel tank to the fuel line. They were brand new fittings, but they allowed air into the system therefore the fuel pump wouldn't work. I changed these fittings to a Chrysler style coupling and lo and behold, it worked. Thanks for the help
