Hi,
I replaced my fuel primer bulb after having issues with fuel getting to the engine. This solved the problem initially but now i am having problems again. I can keep the motor running but i have to continuosly pump the bulb? Any ideas? From what i found searching the site i may need to clean the fuel filter in the pump? How do i clean the filter on the fuel pump? Where exactly is is located on a 1976 25 hp johnson. Thanks for your help.

I'd say the pump need replacing or at least a kit. The filter screen is behind the flat head screw in the middle of the pump under the black cover market filter. Follow the fuel line from the carb to the pump, it's usually bolted to the side of the powerhead. Could also be the mating gasket to the power head but I doubt it , probably a weak pump. Check lines as well while you're in there for condition/deterioration.

Don't forget the quick connects ;sometimes if worn they will suck air and not leak gas.

Would they not leak gas if you pump the bulb? Would the bulb get hard if there was a connector issue? Just curious for my own knowledge.

I'd try another bulb first. If that one is trying to collapse, most likely your problem again. And if it isn't collapsing, but you pump it while running and it straightens out, may be it. New doesn't mean good necessarily.
