I just bought a new mercury 9.9 and was wondering if it would hurt to put fuel stabilizer in every tank of gas I use. Also, should I use a specific brand of stabilizer?
No reason to put stabil in every time, unless it sits for more than 3 months in between uses! And in some cases, it will do more harm than good! Why do you want to do this!

Rick
With these little 2 strokes (single carbed engines) I've always run the carb dry after each use to keep varnish from clogging them up and stored it with the carbs empty. If someone used the little outboard and did not run it dry, it always caused me problems before the next use. If the gas in the tank doesn't sit too long it's probably not necessary. I personnaly run Stabil in every tank with my twin V6's cause I can't run the gas out of the carbs, If I could I would only stabilize the last tank before winter. What type of problems can Stabil cause???
Is "Stabil" the brand that I should use? The basic reason for my question is that I see a lot of people on this site that may have been able to prevent the predicament that they are in. I'm new to the boating world and would like to remain problem free for as long as possible
I use Stabil too, and recommend it. I recently had a problem with what I believe was bad gas, and so started using stabilizer regularly (rather than just for winter storage). So far, so good.
