Fuel smell in cabin

Hey guys. I've noticed that the cuddy cabin in my boat smells of fuel. Once aired out, the smell goes away ... but any time I close the cabin up, the smell quickly returns. Does anyone else have the same problem? Is this normal in a cuddy cabin? I'm wondering if maybe I have a loose fuel line or fitting somewhere in the inner hull. This is a fairly new boat (2002) and I was hoping to use the cabin for overnight trips ... but not if I can't fix this problem. Thanks in advance for the help/suggestions.

You have a problem that must be fixed. Bout all you can do is start eliminating potential sources until you find it. There may be a fuel dye available that will help you pinpoint if you cannot find it via inspecting the fuel system. Better yet I would contact the dealer and explain your problem...maybe warranty or a comp repair as something aint right and certianly doesent sound safe either. Safty is paramount and this is very risky.

Re: Fuel smell in cabin

Vanilla, You have a small fuel leak in the vent, fill or the fuel pickup. If your tank(s) are in the sidewalls of the cabin it will be easier for the smell to be in the cabin. If the tanks are outside the cabin, the fumes are heavier than air and collect in the lowest point. If the latter is the case, you may have a significant leak. In any case, all connections should be double clamped, and I would inspect the fill, vent and fuel pickup lines for a crack, and the filler fitting for a missing O ring.

Re: Fuel smell in cabin

Thanks for the info guys. I starting looking into the problem last night. I removed anything I could that would give me access to the tank and fuel lines/vent line. I've found nothing so far. I found some water between the hulls ... no fuel ... so I am thinking this is most likely a problem problem with the fuel vent. Maybe I have a loose clamp or line fitting. Problem is, I only have so much access to it ... since everything is between the hulls. Guess I will keep plugging. Thanks for the advice ... I will let you guys know when I solve it.
