Evening all,

I just purchased a new sending unit and float for my fuel tank since mine was shot. Pulled the old one, set the new one up for bar length, went to torque it down but 4 out of 5 holes are stripped. I can only get one to the 15ft/lbs, the other 4 just spin. Went to crappy tire and got one size up, 1/4 ", but too large. Question is if i get self tapping screws do you feel there would be enough metal filings created to cause a problem?? Last thing i want to do is bugger up the carbs or fuel lines or pump. Full tank of gas and would be alot of siphoning to clean her out too. To self tap 1 size bigger may not even create any filings, unfortunately i wont be able to see the other side to know. An in line fuel filter was suggested, would this effect the fuel pressure in any way. Any ideas??

Even without a problem it is a good idea to have a water seperator/fuel filter. It does not effect fuel pressure and will keep water and crud from reaching your engine. They look much like an automotive oil filter.

15ft lbs?? The last one I put in called for 25 inch lbs. I still had problems with one and had to go to a slightly larger screw. I think it was metric.
